The Master's program in Forest Sciences provides in-depth education in the field of forest sciences. The spectrum of the course content ranges from fundamental aspects of forest ecosystems in Central Europe and worldwide to forest utilization forms and techniques as well as the diversity and management of animal and plant populations to the energetic and material utilization of wood. In addition to ecological contexts, the study program focuses on economic and political aspects as well as applied questions of nature conservation, utilization techniques and operational controls. Special importance is attached to the guiding principle of sustainability in dealing with forests and other near-natural landscapes.
With their application, students choose one of the three in-depth majors during the application and can additionally set their individual focus in their studies through individual elective modules and a mandatory internship.

You choose one of the three majors for your individual study specialisation.
Course Content and Overview
The Master's degree program is divided into core, major and elective modules. During your studies, you take a total of 3 core modules, 10 major modules and 3 electives. In addition, an internship and the Master's thesis must be completed. The program overview shows you a 2-year schedule for all majors offered. The content of the respective modules are briefly described in the individual majors.
Language of Instruction
If you choose an English major Forest Ecology Research or International Forestry, the Master's degree program can be completed entirely in English. This is especially important as it is an international program.
Courses and examinations in the German major Forstwirtschaft are generally held in German or English.

Target group and career
The Master's degree program is aimed at German and international students who want to deepen their education in the field of environmental sciences through theoretical knowledge and practical exercises. By choosing the respective major at the start of your studies, you will be guided throughout by specifically targeted courses. You will thus gain specific knowledge and hands-on experience for your professional career.
Successful completion of the Master's degree qualifies students for an academic career in research and teaching as well as for management positions in companies in the forestry and timber industry, in public administration and in national and international organizations with forestry, nature conservation or environmentally relevant tasks.
