The University of Freiburg was founded in 1457 and is one of the oldest universities in Germany. First-class research, excellent teaching and traditional faculties make the University of Freiburg one of the most attractive universities in Europe. Students can choose between more than 150 courses of study at 11 faculties. Currently, about 25,000 students are enrolled. The university also plays an important role in Freiburg's cultural, social and economic life. With approximately 12,000 employees, the university is the largest employer in the region.
